You can also add set shortcut for any main menu item by launching Preferences->Keyboard & Mouse->Keyboard. This shortcut is displayed in menu and works for me. Have you tried control command+' '. These are available from the toolbar in fullscreen mode. In addition to the keyboard shortcuts, you can set up Character Styles for sub/superscript.You can find system ones by looking in the System. Many you can find by just looking through the menu bar for that application. There are Mission Control shortcuts, Finder shortcuts, system shortcuts, application shortcuts and more.
